Radac supplies systems for monitoring waves and tide for the offshore wind industry.
Including installation vessels and floating turbines.

Weather is a major risk factor

for offshore operations. Wave and tide data are of great importance during all stages of offshore wind farm development and operation. In all offshore operations weather is a major risk factor. Knowledge of the present site conditions assists the crew in determining an optimum weather window during which operations can be performed safely. This increases operational efficiency, reduces costs and prevents workability discussions.

Real time wave monitoring provides essential information for (jack-up) vessels during offshore operations. Jacking operations, crane operations, towing and such are typically limited by a maximum wave height of two meters or even less.

Accurate real time wave and tide data allows for:

  • increased operational efficiency
  • maximised use of weather windows
  • safe personnel transfer
  • safe access to turbine platforms from service vessels
  • safe jacking operations

Our Offshore Wind customers include:

  • Ørsted
  • Vattenfall
  • Eneco
  • Nuon
  • SPIC
  • DEME (jack-up vessels)
  • Seafox (jack up vessels)

Case study: Real time wave data for jack-ups DEME

Given the increasing demands of today’s offshore industry – as the sector advances even further offshore in more challenging and harsher environments and as more remote locations are explored – DEME has been making sure its fleet is geared up to fulfill the requirements of their customers. DEME uses Radac Wave Radar Systems to provide real time wave data for its heavy-lift jack-up vessels. The vessels ‘Innovation’, ‘Apollo’, ‘Neptune’, ‘Thor’ and ‘Goliath’ are equipped with the WaveGuide Height&Tide or the WaveGuide Direction.

Lorentz Lievens, Manager Survey Department: “Real time wave data are crucial for safe jack-up and -down operations. Not only wave height and wave period are important parameters during these operations, but wave direction as well. This combination allows the master of the vessel to decide on the correct moment for a safe, controlled touchdown or release of the vessel legs on or from the seabed. At times jacked-up state, the wave data are particularly useful for safe loading and unloading of the supply vessels.”
